A little while back I was lucky enough to stumble across the wonderful work of Thomas J Speight.
I have been meaning to mention him in one of my blogs but I have been waiting for the right time. I figure, I can't wait much longer so here we are.

Having played with the likes of The Staves, landed support slots for Joshua Radin and Mumford & Sons and received praise from the legendary Sir Paul McCartney, it's safe to say I was expecting only good things. For that, I was not left disappointed as he duly delivers, with a range of well crafted songs, creating a somewhat nostalgic feeling.

With a tone reminiscent of the likes of Damien Rice, Mr Speight harmonises perfectly with band member Laura James, creating a sound that fuels comparisons to the likes of Fionn Regan and Ryan Adams.

My favourite song, Willow Tree is a perfect, gentle summer song with an all star cast including Andy Dunlop from Travis offering his hand on Banjo and produced by Tim and Jesse, from Keane.  Recorded in Tim's studio, the four track EP features the wonderful Jessica Staveley Taylor (The Staves) and is a display of an emotive lyrics and vocal interplay between two magnificent artists.

His recent release, The River is also a must listen. Featuring Allie Moss on vocals, this beautiful song is taken from Together or Alone EP, released in April and available to iTunes.

Having reviewed The Staves, I began following the work of TJ Speight and recently, designed some flyers/posters for his upcoming gigs (see above). I am beyond excited to see Speight play with Communion Leeds on 20th June in Oporto alongside Charlie Bath, In Fear of Olive, Mike Medved & The Redcoats and Look Yonder.

For anybody further afield than Leeds, Speight will be gracing many fields doing his round of the festival circuit this year. You can catch him at the following shows:

Jun 20 - Leeds Communion at Oporto
Jul 13 - London, Bush Hall
Jul 28 - Kendal Calling Festival w/ Dizzee Rascal, Benjamin Francis Leftwich
Aug 17 - Strummer of Love Festival w/ Pogues, Fionn Regan, KT Tunstall
