Fashion Fix

Now Uni's out for Summer and I experience a day off work I sat here twiddling my thumbs, that was until I stumbled across a Facebook entry from a popular magazine re.  favourite fashionista's for the summer. I jumped at the opportunity to write about something I enthuse about. As previously mentioned in this blog, I did a couple of poster entries for this particular person I am about to babble on about, please bare with me and if you haven't already done so, again, I urge you to check out her stuff, that's   the wonderful and talented young singer and MSN Columnist, Sunday Girl. I felt the need to shout from the rooftops about this one.

Former pet shop girl has revolutionised the fashion stakes as one to watch. I was fortunate enough to see Jade Williams, aka Sunday Girl at an Ellie Goulding gig towards the end of last year.

At first I thought it was another support act that I would never hear of in a few months time but as soon as Jade entered the stage my ears pricked up, a smile flashed across my face, I knew Sunday Girl was here to stay.

Since this day I find myself checking up on her daily, in a not so stalkerish kind of way! Not only a great singer/songwriter but also a very humble and down to earth girl who seems to have found her feet and is heading in the right direction. As well as enjoying her music, she is also a lover of several fascinating things including art, animals and vintage goods.

Following her success on tour with Ellie Goulding last year things just keep looking up for Jade.

Inspiration can be clearly linked to the works of Tim Walker and set designer Shona Heath, who's shoots have previously featured in Vogue, something that no doubt influenced Jade throughout her set design degree.

Imaginative stage sets including a huge television at Beach Break. So much detail goes into the stage design of Jades shows it's clear she has a real eye for detail. A favourite of mine is the theme she describes as 'cabinet of curiosity/Victorian. Hand made big butterfly frames, plant propagators and stuffed animals, made to look like taxidermy domes.

Her innovative approach is also evident in her sense of style, her somewhat feminine take on masculine tailoring is a look I certainly aspire to. Exciting news comes off the back of touring with Martin Solveig in Australia, having announced she has collaborated with Firetrap to release her very own bug inspired clothing line. Previous to this, Jade often created accessories such as her very own Chanel esk collars with a charming attention to detail.

But it's not just music and fashion. Especially interesting is the way in which Jade interacts with her fans. On 20th Feb, Jade held her very first Sunday Girl Party. The concept was a free party for fans on a Sunday afternoon with a quirky approach which included knitting, arts and crafts, DJs, acoustic sets and punch in tea pots! Whats more, Sunday Girl asked fans to create their own posters with the winners receiving some goodies. Unfortunately I haven't had chance to check any of her parties out but I hear it's a great occasion, oozing with Jades style and personality, evident from her hand made bunting and dressed tables in a vintage/kitch style.

It seems everything Jade enjoys is represented in her approach to work. I've heard she also loves furniture and does a lot of car boot sales. This no doubt influences her somewhat vintage/antique flare which is quite often mixed with high street brands including favourites Topshop, Zara and H & M. Jade has also supported and modelled for River Island, Design Forum.

Best known for her sort of androgynous style Jade likes to experiment with shirts and boy trousers, in contrast to her big girly hair, an attribute all girls should be jealous of.
I share so much excitement for this artist. Not only her work but the detail to which she completes everything, even on tour Jade designed all her t-shirts in the style of colour by numbers, a fresh and innovative approach.

Of course music influences her style but main style icons include Gabrielle "Coco Chanel, Jane Birkin, Daphne Guinness and of course the wonderful Karl Lagerfeld who she was lucky enough to meet earlier this year.

What do I like most about Sunday Girl's style? It's classic, tailored and masculine however at the same time elegant. Also evident is Jade's love for anything Parisian and sea related which was no doubt enhanced during her first visit to the Paris Fashion Week this year. It seems Jade loves rummaging through rails to find the perfect vintage clothing however balances this with her love for high street treats. Infact, Jade says she finds the best men's dress shirts and winged collars in charity shops, that way she doesn't mind chopping half the sleeves off! Something I think is a must for this summer, let's get chopping our old clothes in the hope that sun comes out to play.
PS. I want her shoes. that is all. Oh yeah, also check out her blog...
