Introducing... K H U S H I

Earlier this week, I caught up with new kid on the block K H U S H I. The East London singer has been causing quite a stir in the online community, releasing 4 tracks, showcasing his unique talents.

Evolving a new take on folk, K H U S H I's sound is a somewhat blissful blend of tender pop and intimately captivating melodies.

Incorporating layered vocals and with comparisons rife to the likes of Tune Yards and Alt J, it's certainly a sound I can't get enough of.

So, without further a do, I hope you enjoy.

DaisyDigital: I have given the tracks a listen and it seems to be a blissful blend of tender pop and intimately captivating melodies. For anyone who's not heard it, how would you describe your music?

K H U S H I : To be honest, I'm quite bad at describing my music but I really like your description of it as a 'blissful blend of tender pop and intimately captivating melodies' that's really good!

DD: How have you found the early response to the music so far?

K: The early response has been amazing so far and very encouraging to get so many people saying nice things, especially after having kept some of the songs largely to myself for quite a while. It motivates me to keep on writing and developing the sound.

DD: With early support from the likes of Huw Stephens, what was it like hearing yourself on the radio for the first time?

K: (Ha) It was very surreal hearing Huw Stephens play those tracks, mainly 'cos I was sat in my living room where I'd recorded them and listening on the same speakers they were mixed on except they were coming through via. the airwaves this time, so slightly more crackly!

DD: When did you decide music was the path for you and what's behind the name K H U S H I?

K: Khushi is my childhood name that everyone who knew me from when I was young calls me and I just felt it would make a nice name for this project. I guess it slowly dawned on me that I might get sucked into making music in a big way around the age of 12/13 when I started writing things and couldn't stop.

DD: What have been your main influences, both musically and lyrically?

K: I have a lot of influences really so it's often hard to know where to start. I think my melodies are more and more influenced by soul and r n b but my choice of instruments is obviously more influenced by an alternative/indie background.

DD: Can we look forward to seeing you on the road anytime soon and if so, what can we expect from a live gig?

K: There are two first proper gigs lined up. First, the Old Queen's Head on Thursday 17th of Jan and then the second at Camden Barfly on Thursday 31st of Jan. The live show is shaping up nicely now, with three very talented musicians on board helping me bring the songs to life on stage and sounding really nice so I am looking forward to playing live.

DD: Finally, you've released a few songs via. Soundcloud, is there an album/EP in the pipeline?

K: There is a single release planned for early Spring, more details to come on that and then yes, an album later in the year.

Many thanks Khushi!

Be sure to keep an eye on Khushi over on Facebook and his website, if that's not enough, why not join me at the live shows!

In the meantime, here's a little treat for you!
