Next up, I have something new and extra lovely to shout
about. You may not have heard about her so count it as a little Friday treat.
That something goes by the name of Arlissa.
Hailing from South London, the 19 year old
singer songwriter releases her debut single, ‘Hard To Love Somebody’ at the end
of November. The hugely talented youngsters debut single comes in the form
of once in a lifetime collaboration with Grammy-nominated legend Nas, whose
only other feature with a UK artist was with the late Amy Winehouse.
Having just finished her A Levels and
moving out of her family home, Arlissa found one particular track striking
gold. Somehow the track made its way to legendary hip hop artist Nas and
before she knew it, Arlissa was on a plane to LA to meet with him in person.
With Guardian naming her as the female
sound of 2013 and as a ‘Black Florence’, it seems Arlissa is definitely going
to be a name you’ll be hearing a lot more of.
Having already received support from the likes of Fearne Cotton and Zane
Lowe, Arlissa made her live debut at Bestival this Summer. With delectable
vocals and a humbling presence about stage, Arlissa delightfully yodelled her
way through upcoming release, ‘Sticks and Stones’ and a cover of Alex Clare’s ‘Too
Close’ as well as a selection of songs expected from her debut LP.
