Gaining early radio
play from the likes of Fearne Cotton and championed by Lily Allen, it seems
this young singer songwriter is turning heads left right and centre. Currently
playing support to Jake Bugg, Odell displays a seventies tinged sound reminiscent
of Jeff Buckley, with a harmonic serenity comparable to the delightful James Blake.
With his trademark
porcelain skin and blonde hair, Odell is easily mistaken for a talented, trendy
version third member of Jedward.
With mesmerising piano
compositions in perfect accord with the beautifully crafted lyrics, Odell oozes
talent way beyond his years. The 21-year old hailing from Chichester, released
his debut EP, ‘Songs From Another Love’ digitally on October 29th.
Aged just 13,
Odell wrote his first songs and made the move to Brighton, immersing himself in
the burgeoning music scene.
“I just didn’t stop writing songs for an entire year. I used to stroll around Brighton with this massive keyboard and just go to these open mic’s all around town – and it was so demoralizing, but also really good for me”, said Tom.
Now living in London, Odell has signed a record deal with
Columbia and will release his debut album next year.
Following his November
slots alongside Jake Bugg, Tom will move on to support BBC Sound of 2012
winner, Michael Kiwanuka, can he follow in the footsteps of fellow musician? I have my sneaking suspicions...
