Hailing from Wiltshire, this talented young singer songwriter maybe best known for her cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s, “The Power of Love”. However, I have a feeling this isn’t the last we will be hearing of Gabrielle Aplin.
Infact, I was stopped in my tracks the first time I heard her solo
stuff. Walking behind the stage at Bestival, I listened on in wonder as I
questioned who on earth was the beholder of that exceptional raw talent.
Fast forward a few months, Aplin has gained quite the following
having published acoustic covers via. Youtube. The John Lewis advert may have
propelled Aplin into a potential Christmas no.1 spot however, with three EPs
under her belt and having toured the UK and Europe, it’s something which seems
a worthy accomplishment.
The 20 year old may have created the best Christmas single since
Mariah Carey (okay, it’s a hard call) but that’s not all. It’s the tender
maturity in her voice, displaying talent way beyond her years.
Quite remarkably, independently Aplin released her first three EP’s
which have gone on to sell more than 60,000 copies. Her debut single under
major label, Parlophone is due early next year.
Unlike last year, I predict a bright future for Gabrielle, it seems
more than just the girl behind the John Lewis ad. For that, I imagine you’ll be
seeing a lot more of Gabrielle in 2013 and have no doubt she will be gracing a
stage close to you in the not so distant future.
