Yes, he maybe a Brit School kid with ginger
hair however, Archy Marshall aka King Krule is set to be a name you’ll be
hearing a lot of in 2013.
Hailing from South East London, King Krule,
previously known as Zoo Kid is an incredibly talented young artist. With his
trademark rough, jazzy chords and synthy effects in heavy contrast to his
gauche, teenage look.
However, there’s no denying the charm
surrounding the young artist. With forlorn vocals, resounding beats and echoing
guitar lines, creating a unique depth to his sound, it’s no shock Krule has
been likened to Morrissey.
Displaying talents way beyond his years, Marshall has
made quite the impression, with a New York debut already under his belt and
early support from the likes of Jay Electronica. Noticeably a fan of sampling,
Marshall has experimented with many genres including jazz, rap and hip hop.
It seems slightly strange to be adding him to the 2013 list when
he’s been working for what seems like so long however, maybe 2013 will be his
year. Impressing crowds across Europe back in 2011, Krule released his
self-titled debut EP, spitting his distinctive lyrics and jazz infused guitar
led tales throughout.
Not the typical Brit School student, Archy studied history in the
hope of becoming a better guitarist, as you do. It seems that paid off and King
Krule looks set to become the next big thing, undoubtedly deserving the final
place on my sound of 2013 predictions.
