Daughter featured on DaisyDigital way back last year, with me
proclaiming they’d be one to watch in 2012. Fast forward a year and I’ve been
incredibly lucky to have seen them live three times. Infact, I even got to hang
out with the lovely trio at Bestival following their set.
Daughter, compromising of lead vocalist, Elena Tonra, her other
half, Igor Haefeli - guitar and Remi Aguilela - drums, have had one hell of a
year, it’s crazy to think they’ve yet to release a debut album.
Originally starting as a solo project, the London based trio have
joined forces with the fabulous folk down at Communion, releasing their ‘Wild
Youth’ EP earlier this year. Captivating audiences with their collaborative
sound, their ghostly like instrumentals are in perfect accord to the haunting
vocals fronted by Tonra.
With support slots for the likes of Beirut and Ben Howard, the
extremely talented trio have been showcasing their experimental folk, gaining
quite a following ahead of their headline 2013 tour.
Daughter continue to develop their unique, textured tone ahead of
their debut album release expected sometime in early 2013. They maybe the only
artist to feature in both years BBC Sound of polls but they certainly deserve
the hype.
If the EP’s are anything to go by, the album may well be featuring
on my Top Albums of 2013. Certainly not to be missed, I urge you to check them
out, before it becomes a sell out tour.
