Bon Iver - I Can’t Make You Love Me / Nick of Time

A week today and we'll all be rolling around holding our stomachs, donning paper hats and over enthusiastically pulling one too many crackers. In the run up I've decided to bring you 7 songs, that's one a day incase you were wondering.

Whimsy, idyllic, sublime they all aim to please and I am fairly sure they'll all make your heart grow that little fonder and warmer ahead of the big day.

First up it's Bon Iver, that band that stole my heart oh so long ago but left me an emotional wreck at their sold out Wembley show recently.

Covering the popular 90s song by Bonnie Raitt, Justin Vernon delivers a strikingly simplistic yet oh so wonderful rendition. Born as part of a live medley performed live for Jimmy Fallon, the group mastered a studio version shortly after, with it appearing as the B-side to their single, Calgary.

His trademark, faultless falsetto teamed with his solitary piano chords allow for an intensely heartfelt listen. Ever the lyrical genius, Vernon adds a mark of his own by adding a few chosen words from Riatt's "Nick of Time", (I found love, darling / Love in the nick of time'.
