Day 138 of 365
Monday 16/1/12
Oh look here I am, procrastinating again...
Maybe I should rename this blog... the procrastination of Hannah Daisy... not cool.
Anyway, something kinda cool has come of it, really cool in fact.
I have a lot of recommendations for you lovely lot.
So, after trawling YouTube and listening non-stop to some great new artists I did a little research and here we are, my top tip offs for the upcoming year. I urge you to as many live gigs as possible, they're the next best thing since sliced bread. Literally.
So where to start.
Emeli Sande perhaps?
Not just a pretty face, this extremely talented musician was studying Medicine not so long ago. With a super cute accent and a brit award under her belt, as well as a nomination, there is no surprise Emeli has already supported one of the biggest bands of our time, Coldplay.
I predict we will be hearing a lot of Emeli in 2012 and quite frankly I can't bloody wait.
No. 2 on my list goes to the fantastic Mr. Michael Kiwanuka.
I know I can't stop banging on about him, he really is worth listening out for. Recognizably influenced by soul legends including Bill Withers, Otis Reading and Marvin Gaye his music is described "Like a lazy autumn Sunday afternoon, full of laid back, effortless beauty". Touring with the likes of Adele and Laura Marling it comes as no surprise that Kiwanuka has just won the prestigious BBC Sound of 2012. Stealing the show at Jools Holland in 2011 and signing with Polydor Records seems to have worked wonders for Michael who is bound to deliver some beautiful songs to our ears this year.
No.3 and we have the jazz-noir esque tales and silk like voice of the fascinating Ren Harvieu.
Typically my kinda girl Ren broke her back in May jumping over hedges in a field at 4am, however it seems nothing can stop her. With an album out this year, Ren has managed to gain a string of followers, writing with Glasvegas and The Zutons. Such collaborations led to an invitation from BBC Introducing to play Glastonbury, to which unfortunately due to her freak accident did not materialize. Although, fear not, at just 21 years old, Ren looks likely to become one of the most talked about singing voices of the next few years.
No. 4 is the guy with hair just like mine, if I were a boy that is! I welcome to you, Daley.
(For the record I have curly red hair)
Where was I, ah yes. Daley - a singer songwriter from Manchester. With a mixtape already out and a nomination for the BBC Sound of 2011 poll, Daley seems to be growing from strength to strength and 2012 will be no exception. Chosen after uploading his track "Rainy Day", Daley was invited by BBC Introducing to record a live session in BBC's famous Maida Vale Studios as part of Electric Proms 2009. His soulful, ambient vocals are featured on the single "Domcamatic" by Gorrilaz and "Long Way Home" by Wretch 32. As if that wasn't enough, Daley's mixtape/EP released in August 2011 is available as a free download here, so what you waiting for, you know it makes sense!

Next up, it's my new obsession. Oh No I hear you cry. Fear not, I have every faith you will love him too.
Not only does he have the most wonderful hair, facial and that beehive of his, King Charles' voice is something else. The incredibly talented singer songwriter has been writing music from the age of seventeen. However, it was the International Songwriting Competiton that really set things off for King Charles. Touring alongside the likes of Laura Marling, Noah and the Whale and Mumford and Songs, it came as no surprise when King Charles became the first winning Englishman of ISC in 2010.
He plays guitar, piano and cello and has the perfect voice, whats more, he has a seriously cool style, once described as "an ocassional shaman who tramples over the border of cool/not cool". Well I can assure you, this guy is the coolest. I only hope for brilliant things in the upcoming years.
So, as I stare through an imaginary glass ball, these are my predictions. It's safe to say 2012 is going to be a brilliant year for live music so once again, I urge you to go out to as many live shows at possible. I have 5 on the agenda for the upcoming month!
Here's the playlist...
1. Emeli Sande - Next To Me
2. Michael Kiwanuka - Whole Lotta Love (BBC Radio1 Session)
3. Ren Harvieu - Through The Night
4. Daley - Pretty Wings
5. King Charles - Love Lust
