Day 71 of 365

Thursday 10/11/11

What a fun night last night was! I am super excited for today! We're off to a few museums, museums full of cars! First stop, the Mercedes. Wow. Be warned - geeky moment to follow.
In my two years of studying Architecture, I have never been so inspired, astonished, in complete awe with a building before.
This place was insane, from every little detail, there was nothing I would change. When you enter the building you gaze up gaping at the vast array of exciting exhibits and interior. After paying you are led to collect an audio guide. We then waited for a lift and wow. It's not any old boring lift, no it's like something I've never seen before now but I imagine we will see a lot of in years to come. Paying more resemblance to a time capsule or pod than that of its intended purpose, a lift.

Just as you reach the top your headset starts talking and from that moment on, until the moment you take them off and leave the building you are transfixed. The content is reflected throughout by the architecture and internal fittings and the amazing thing is, the way you go right up to the top and are led down by this sloping floor the whole way throughout different exhibits until the final room, a showroom containing the most beautiful cars! My Mum had asked me to look out for a certain type, she loves it, I was going to get her a little model one for a joke but couldn't find it!!!

Anyway, it's fair to say we all left with grins from ear to ear. So much so, my tutor actually referred to the experience as any architects wet dream, I shall leave that with you and let you think as you will.

Next stop, the Porsche Museum, a short drive away. Ooh the competition!
It was not as architecturally interesting but it was still well worth the visit! It's amazing here in Germany, it's so industrial but at the same time, these beautiful buildings, both traditional and modern/futuristic.

So tonight everyone was feeling a little tired so we decided to stay in the hostel and get food here, unfortunately this may not have been the best shout, the food was not the best I've ever had but oh well.  In Germany I play it safe, taking the vegetarian option where necessary proves the best option, in this case it certainly did!

I'm so tired, my roomy and I are off to bed at 21.30, unheard of huh? Hope all you lovely lot are well.
Goodnight
x
