Day 222 of 365
Tuesday 10th April
222 days of blogging, pity it's not 22nd April, that'd be pretty freaky huh?
How are you lovely lot?
Since today is a nice day I thought I may bring music into my post, yet again! After all, there's nothing better than dancing round in the living room, sliding across the laminate floor whilst the sun is beaming in. I must add, I only do this when I'm home alone, or at least I think I am. Trouble is, our whole living room is glazed, floor to ceiling, good job it's only the wildlife roaming our garden that get to experience my madness. Unless of course I forget the gardeners are next door!
Anyway, so... Today I thought I would do a music edit.
As faithful readers will know, I have both ears pricked and ready for the festival season. I love nothing better than listening to music, be it a classic from The Smiths, a new find from the likes of The Staves or dancing 'round singing into a hairbrush to Beyonce.
So I thought I would share some things for you.
So being lucky enough to share my time between Leeds and Liverpool, this past year has seen me attended more gigs than I've seen close friends. I am also eagerly anticipating the festival season and I am ecstatic to announce that I will be photographing at my favourite festival, Wakestock.
So let's kick start things...
Well, well well... I have a few recommendations, If I may...
1. Lucy Rose - English singer/songwriter. Has lent her vocal talents to Bombay Bicycle Club hits and currently has three singles out: 'Middle of the Bed', 'Red Face' and 'Scar'
2. Daughter - Experimental folk duo, Elena Tonra on vocals and Igor Haefeli, her boyfriend lending his hand on guitar. Haunting, moody yet atmospheric. Great live act and definitely one to watch in 2012. The Wild Youth EP is out now, released by Communion.
3. Keaton Henson - Marry me now? 23 year old singer/songwriter from London. When introducing his sound to a friend, he said the following: 'I don't know if I prefer his guitar playing, his voice or his amazing beard'. Take your pick, they're all too good in my eyes. His album, 'Dear' is available now.
4. First Aid Kit - Swedish sisters and folk duo. Reminiscent of a personal favourite, 'The Staves'. Their exceptional woodsy, vocal harmonies have gained them a selection of famous followers including Fleet Foxes, Lykke Li and Patti Smith. Their second album, 'The Lion's Roar' is available now.
5. Alt J - Leeds quartet. See what they've done there? Alt + J for those cool enough to have a Mac ;)
Think Metronomy come Radiohead, these lot toy their innovative and distinctive signature style with melodies that will leave you hair standing on end. Well, they certainly give me goosebumps. Whats more, they never show their faces in pictures, intriguing. Also, they went to Uni here in Leeds, just like me so that's pretty cool huh. Their EP is available now, including the magical Matilda.
Band of the Month - There's no denying my admiration for The Staves. So much so, I am going to see them again, next Saturday. Yes, the third time in as many months. Call me obsessed, with their music I don't care. They are utterly brilliant. This however, I must share with you.
It fills me with joy. So much joy. I can't stop listening. You need it in your life, right now.
The epitome of musical perfection. The best jam I ever did hear.
Thank-you Communion.
