Day 223 of 365
Wednesday 11th April
Apologies and welcome, as you've probabally guessed, I have become slightly lost and out of sync with the blogging these past few days.
This week has been pretty hectic, since Saturday I feel like I haven't stopped. So, apart from Uni work I have actually been working for dollar. I do enjoy my job but these hours are killing me, Monday-Thursday 1pm-9pm. It kinda kills my social life.
But hey. How are you?
Actually for todays blog post I have something rather unusual. So, at work we receive a lot of CV's for current job positions. Unfortunately, not one to make fun of people, it has come to my attention there is a lot to be desired for the English grammar and punctuation we see of late.
Stuff like that confuses me. I know not everyone has had the opportunities I have had but seriously, when applying for a job - you could get a little helping hand? Without sounding like I am having a big rant about the education system, that's not my kinda thing - I would like to introduce to you a few snippets I trawled through today.
Also, whilst I am at it, I am by no means an expert however, I have yet to be turned down for a job. Whilst writing your CV, one word of advice to you is always relate it to the position you are applying for, even if you don't have previous experience, show interest.
I say this, as I sit here in disbelief as I read the following:
'I have worked at bars since I was 17 glass collecting. I got to know the people who was drinking there, by time I was 20 I know everyone's drinks who was a regular in the club. This was great as I learn all the drinks that they had to off. I was there 3 an half years'
Also, do not include personal statements such as the following:
I have a child he is in a good routine, in bed by 6.30 every night, gives me time to do housework.
Also, boys - I do not want to know or have any interest in knowing that you enjoy going on the internet or playing games on your PC.
So, overall, not only do I think you are completely unsuitable for the job, I can't help but feel some pity. I mean, come on. Anyway, rant over. To anyone who is applying for jobs, good luck. Randomly, here are some tips.
- Never use a comedy email such as 'dirty69' or 'sexybiatch'.
- However pretty you are, do not include a photo unless of course it's for a modelling portfolio, even then, be careful which ones to chose, not ones of you posing in a mirror with dim light and your boobs hanging low.
- Qualifications wise, do not include E's and F's - simply leave the grades out of it, just this once
- Hobbies: this is a CV not your Granny who proudly listens intently to your many pastimes. Also, be aware - anything you mention here will probably be brought up in an interview.
Key advice : Do not lie. Not even the smallest tincy wincy white lie. You will get found out.
Also, perfect that handshake, 26% out of a survey of 2000 had a handshake that was too weak, costing them that job. Sigh.
